EPIR was founded by Dr. Siva Sivananthan in 1997 with a mission to protect those who protect us by developing specialized infrared materials and providing cutting-edge research for the U.S. defense industry. EPIR’s infrared technology, based on mercury cadmium telluride (HgCdTe or MCT), is used in high performance night vision cameras, imaging systems and detectors for a wide range of applications.

Over the last five years, the company has rapidly commercialized these advanced infrared materials and also low-cost infrared sensors for commercial and machine vision applications. EPIR’s technology, based on MCT, formed the foundation for the development of revolutionary new multi-junction photovoltaic cells for solar energy applications. The company maintains a strong and innovative R&D team that improves existing technologies and develops new ones.
