MBE Growth Postdoctoral Fellow
Job Duties:
- Prepare and load individual wafers into the crystal growth chamber and monitor controls:
- Preparing and using chemicals for controlled etching of wafer substrates (a wafer is a thin slice of a semiconductor);
- Monitoring the chemical etching process and effect on wafer substrates’ surface;
- Optimizing the etching process to generate atomically flat, free of debris surfaces;
- Loading wafer substrates into ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) MBE chamber.
- Perform molecular beam epitaxy of HgCdTe on various crystal substrates to include silicon and CdZnTe:
- Fabricate semiconductor single crystalline thin films and complex layered structures by controlling and regulating the molecular fluxes, evaporating temperature, substrate temperature and pressures;
- Test wafers using spectroscopic ellipsometry and analyze and prepare data in a readable format;
- Testing single crystal semiconductors using in-situ and ex-situ characterization techniques such as Fourier-transfonn infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED), high-resolution x-ray diffraction (HRXRD), and scanning ellipsometry (SE) to assess their optical and structural properties;
- Analyzing and interpreting the data, work with theoretical physicists and engineers to improve the quality of the grown wafers using feedback from testing.
- Characterize HgCdTe epitaxial films using Hall and photoconductive minority carrier lifetimes:
- Testing single crystal semiconductors electrical properties using Van Der Pau w Hall measurements and photoconductive minority lifetime measurements.
- Experience with troubleshooting, improving, and modifying laboratory equipment, including MBE and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) equipment:
- Troubleshooting and modifying the MBE chamber by controlling the UHV equipment and accessories.
- Experience with in-situ growth monitoring and diagnostic techniques.
- Work closely with theoretical physicists and engineers and provide materials growth support.
- Write R&D-level proposals for semiconductor materials and device technology advancements.
- Present R&D results at conferences and publish papers.
Minimum Requirements:
